The national police force is launching a campaign about outboard motor thefts. Cases are becoming increasingly common, so this is to remind people about what to do if their outboard motor is stolen.

"We have observed that thefts of outboard motors often take place at night and at the weekend, said lieutenant colonel Florian Manet, commanding officer of the coast guard's research division.  The perpetrators break in to buildings where boats are stored over winter. In ports, they use dinghies to get access to boats at anchor."

REMINDER: Dial 17 to inform the police as quickly as possible if you witness a theft. Do not touch anything on board the boat.
