Clément Machetel

APRIL Marine and Clément Machetel set sail on the 2017 Mini Transat race!

Clément had wanted to cross the Atlantic in the Mini Transat 6.5 race for a long time. He will be displaying the APRIL Marine logo as he travels across the Atlantic from Douarnenez to Pointe-à-Pitre on his Mini.

Clément is an accomplished windsurfer and experienced sailor on the First class 8, the pogo 2, the Figaro, the J 80 as well as the laser SB3. He is currently competing on board a Mini 6.5, with APRIL Marine as his main sponsor, in the pre-selection races.

Clément Machetel first started windsurfing at the age of 8, in the north of Brittany. A young windsurfing hopeful at 12, who then took part in a sports-study programme in sailing in la Baule, and competed in his first solo race in a Figaro around Brittany at 18, in the Spi-Ouest France as well as the French offshore championship, his track record is already impressive. A real seafaring enthusiast, Clément is also very ambitious and launched his own business at 21. He now works at Helly Hansen and is truly passionate about what he does.

The Mini Transat race is the place to learn about offshore racing on 'mini speedsters'. It is a race which really grips people and captures the imagination, in which the greatest names in sailing have taken part. It is an adventure which requires unfaltering commitment.

APRIL Marine has for years stood alongside skippers and shared the same values as those involved in solo racing: building trust, pushing boundaries and showing solidarity. As an insurer committed to changing the image of insurance, APRIL Marine can identify with Clément Machetel's adventure and therefore stands alongside this ocean explorer.

Arnaud Boissières, Clément's mentor

It is with great pleasure that the skipper Arnaud Boissières has agreed to support Clément for his Mini Transat project.

Arnaud Boissières, known as 'Cali', is himself also a real seafaring enthusiast. Funny, open-minded, sociable and born and bred in Arcachon, he now lives in Les Sables d'Olonne. An 'old-hand' at the Mini Transat, he came 10th in the 2016-17 Vendée Globe race.

Clément's mini 6.50, number 850 and already called APRIL Marine, will take its maiden voyage during summer 2017 at Les Sables d'Olonne, alongside two skippers.
